Plastic Surgery in 2015: What’s On the Horizon

February 11th, 2015

Going into the new year, plastic surgeons are excited to see what new developments 2015 will bring in this branch of medical care.

Advancements have made a wide range of procedures more attainable and comfortable for patients. Will this be the year you seize the opportunity to feel more attractive? A board-certified plastic surgeon in Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. Clifford King at Madison Cosmetic Surgery will work with you to help you reach your goals.

Predictions for 2015:

* Two for One: Adding cosmetic benefits to reconstructive/functional surgeries, and vice versa, is expected to become even more popular this year. “Today someone who wants a rhinoplasty for functional reasons may also desire a cosmetic benefit, and people who opt for the procedure to correct a bump or another concern also want to breathe better,” Dr. Park explains.

* Better Together: They also predict a rise in combining treatments to increase their efficacy, also known as “stacking.” For example, Botox and facial fillers work wonderfully well together to smooth wrinkles, and the combination produces longer-lasting results.

* Social Snaps’ Significance: Ever-present smart-phone cameras and the resulting social-media posts full of faces have more people evaluating their appearance and considering what they can do to improve it. Those who want to look better in photos go for cosmetic surgery procedures like rhinoplasty, eyelid rejuvenation and neck contouring.

* As Young As They Feel: “It is increasingly common for women and men in their 60s and 70s to seek out the expertise of facial plastic surgeons to maintain a youthful appearance.

It’s been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But, are there certain faces and features that are widely regarded as desireable and attractive? Based on U.K. survey results, the Daily Star has created a composite photo showing the “perfect celebrity face.”

The responses of 1,000 people were used to create a face from the most successful surgically enhanced celebrity features. All of the body parts are from celebrities who have been open about their use of cosmetic surgery to enhance their appearance.
The face includes Amanda Holden’s Botox-smoothed forehead, Anne Robinson’s firm eye lids, Madonna’s pouty lips and Megan Fox’s nose job.

“Weakest Link” host Anne Robinson, who is 70 years old, was voted as the female celebrity who has most successfully used plastic surgery to reverse the signs of aging. Robinson has said: “I’ve asked my surgeon if I can have a third life. I had my eyes done ages ago and I had work on my chin and brow.”

In the survey, 60 percent of women said they would have plastic surgery if they thought it would improve their appearance and money was no object.

For the men, former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell, 55, was voted as having the most successful work done. He receives Botox treatments regularly. Similar to the female respondents, 58 percent said of men said they would have surgery to look younger if they needed it and money was not an issue.

Dr. Shahmalak from Crown Clinic said: “They have seen how stars like Anne Robinson still looking amazing in their 70s. Anne is a brilliant presenter but I have no doubt that she has managed to prolong her career on TV by having cosmetic surgery and looking so much younger.”

The Importance of Board Certification

May 14th, 2013

It is important to find a plastic surgeon who is board certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).The process of board certification by this organization is quite rigorous and extensive.

First, in order to gain entrance into a certified plastic surgery training program, one must show a high level of clinical and academic performance. Typically, a plastic surgery training program is six to eight years in duration following medical school. During this time, the resident learns from attending didactic conferences, and the resident participates in the operating room. After completion of this extensive training, the resident is considered Board Eligible. Passing a written exam and then an oral exam is necessary to become Board Certified. Recertification is is important, and is usually done on a regular basis.

In order to maintain board certification, a plastic surgeon is required to participate in a minimal number of educational
conferences and events. A patient considering plastic surgery should seek a board certified plastic surgeon. This should be the first step in identifying a doctor who is best trained in the field, and will further ensure a great outcome from any surgical procedure.
