Continuing the list from our previous blog post, here’s what we can expect to see in 2015:

* Beauty is in the Eye: Procedures to brighten, firm and rejuvenate the delicate eyelid area — including eye lift surgery (blepharoplasty) — have had major improvements, and they are expected to become even more popular in 2015.

* Fat Chance: As harvesting techniques improve, fat grafting is expected to become even more popular. There has already been a rise in combination treatments, where fat is removed from one area and injected into another. Looking even further into the future, research will continue into the beneficial ways growth factors and stem cells found in fat might be used.

* A Little Confidence Booster: Even a small procedure can have major impact in terms of brightening a patient’s appearance and boosting their self confidence. Plastic Surgeons predict they will continue to see more patients for minor treatments like ear surgery (otoplasty), upper-lip lifts, and the removal of moles and birthmarks.

* And, In the Future?: A few new non-surgical procedures are being developed that might be available this year, pending FDA approval. Plastic surgeons are excited about a fat-melting injection meant to reduce double chins and a new topical form of Botox.

Plastic Surgery in 2015: What’s On the Horizon

February 11th, 2015

Going into the new year, plastic surgeons are excited to see what new developments 2015 will bring in this branch of medical care.

Advancements have made a wide range of procedures more attainable and comfortable for patients. Will this be the year you seize the opportunity to feel more attractive? A board-certified plastic surgeon in Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. Clifford King at Madison Cosmetic Surgery will work with you to help you reach your goals.

Predictions for 2015:

* Two for One: Adding cosmetic benefits to reconstructive/functional surgeries, and vice versa, is expected to become even more popular this year. “Today someone who wants a rhinoplasty for functional reasons may also desire a cosmetic benefit, and people who opt for the procedure to correct a bump or another concern also want to breathe better,” Dr. Park explains.

* Better Together: They also predict a rise in combining treatments to increase their efficacy, also known as “stacking.” For example, Botox and facial fillers work wonderfully well together to smooth wrinkles, and the combination produces longer-lasting results.

* Social Snaps’ Significance: Ever-present smart-phone cameras and the resulting social-media posts full of faces have more people evaluating their appearance and considering what they can do to improve it. Those who want to look better in photos go for cosmetic surgery procedures like rhinoplasty, eyelid rejuvenation and neck contouring.

* As Young As They Feel: “It is increasingly common for women and men in their 60s and 70s to seek out the expertise of facial plastic surgeons to maintain a youthful appearance.

How Does The Perfect Celebrity Face Look?

January 15th, 2015

It’s been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But, are there certain faces and features that are widely regarded as desireable and attractive? Based on U.K. survey results, the Daily Star has created a composite photo showing the “perfect celebrity face.”

The responses of 1,000 people were used to create a face from the most successful surgically enhanced celebrity features. All of the body parts are from celebrities who have been open about their use of cosmetic surgery to enhance their appearance.
The face includes Amanda Holden’s Botox-smoothed forehead, Anne Robinson’s firm eye lids, Madonna’s pouty lips and Megan Fox’s nose job.

“Weakest Link” host Anne Robinson, who is 70 years old, was voted as the female celebrity who has most successfully used plastic surgery to reverse the signs of aging. Robinson has said: “I’ve asked my surgeon if I can have a third life. I had my eyes done ages ago and I had work on my chin and brow.”

In the survey, 60 percent of women said they would have plastic surgery if they thought it would improve their appearance and money was no object.

For the men, former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell, 55, was voted as having the most successful work done. He receives Botox treatments regularly. Similar to the female respondents, 58 percent said of men said they would have surgery to look younger if they needed it and money was not an issue.

Dr. Shahmalak from Crown Clinic said: “They have seen how stars like Anne Robinson still looking amazing in their 70s. Anne is a brilliant presenter but I have no doubt that she has managed to prolong her career on TV by having cosmetic surgery and looking so much younger.”

Botox Uses Go Beyond Beauty

December 27th, 2014

Famous for its ability to erase fine lines and wrinkles, Botox has been shown to provide relief for a laundry list of conditions since it was first approved for medical use 25 years ago. In fact, in 2013, more than half of the sales of Botox were for non-cosmetic uses, according to the Daily Mail.

Botox was first used to treat eye spasms, and is commonly used for children suffering from the limb stiffness of cerebral palsy. Botox has been officially approved for 12 conditions. Along with other botulinum toxins, it is being investigated for more than 20 medical uses.

Madison Cosmetic Surgery offers Botox treatments in Madison, Wisconsin, along with other non-surgical skin care options including Restylane, microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

Some of the many ailments Botox can treat include:

* Excessive sweating: Botox temporarily blocks the secretion of the chemical that turns on sweat glands. Studies have shown Botox injections in affected areas — armpits, hands, feet, face — reduce perspiration by more than 50 percent.

* Joint pain: Botox can block nerve signals that transmit pain messages to the brain, and can also ease muscle spasms and tightness around joints. It can help knee, shoulder and hip pain caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.

* Incontinence: Botox injected into the bladder wall reduces the spasming of the smooth bladder muscle, easing urge incontinence.

* Foot pain: A Mexican study found that six months after receiving Botox injections, patients with painful plantar fasciitis inflammation had faster and better recovery than those who were injected with steroids.

* Scars: Botox injected in and around thick keloid scars as they are healing can reduce the appearance of the scar.

* Back pain: A few studies have shown Botox to relieve pain by blocking communication between nerves and muscles, stopping or reducing spasms.

* Migrane: The FDA approved Botox for chronic migraine in 2010. In one study, 70 percent of migrane sufferers who received Botox injections into specific areas of their head and neck reduced their attacks by at least half.

* Teeth grinding: Botox is injected into the main chewing muscle to reduce involuntary clenching of the jaw muscles and tooth grinding.
