Before Breast Surgery [Part 2]: Your Shopping List

February 27th, 2016

When you return home from your breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction surgery, you will want to be as comfortable as possible as you recover.

Madison Comestic Surgery is happy to share this suggested shopping list of items you can benefit from having on-hand at home:

* For Freshness: Baby wipes and dry shampoo will help you feel clean during the few days after your surgery when you should avoid showering. A long-handled bath brush will be appreciated when you do begin showering. We suggest applying shea butter or cocoa butter lotion to the breast area afterward.

* From the Pharmacy: Fill a basket with magazines, hard candy, tissues, moisturizer and anything else you anticipate being happy to have as you relax at home.

* Good Herbs: For two weeks before and after your breast surgery, taking the herbal supplement Arnica Montana (or Mountain daisy) can reduce bruising and pain. A cream containing the herb can be massaged directly onto the breasts.

* Ice Packs: To ease pain and swelling, four flexible gel ice packs are recommended, so you can use two while the other two stay cold in the freezer. For three days after surgery, practice “20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.”

* Lots of Pillows: You’ll need a few big pillows or a wedge pillow to lay at a 45-degree angle, which reduces swelling and bruising. Also, use them to prevent you from rolling onto your breasts while you’re sleeping.

* Choice Clothes: Choose a shirt with buttons or zippers on your operation day. Wear soft, comfortable fabrics.
