The stomach or “tummy” can be a very sensual feature of the body. When the tummy carries excess fatty tissue and skin it can bulge and look less attractive. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), available at our Madison, Wisconsin cosmetic surgery practice, is an excellent option for reducing excess stomach tissue and reshaping stomach contours. Another option we offer for reshaping the tummy is panniculectomy, which addresses more extreme amounts of tissue that remain after significant weight loss.
We offer abdominoplasty, popularly known as the “ tummy tuck,” at our Madison, Wisconsin cosmetic surgery practice. Abdominoplasty is an effective procedure for removing excess fat and skin from the abdominal area, particularly in those patients who experience persistent problems despite regular exercise and a healthy diet.
During the surgery, usually done while the patient is under general anesthesia, Dr. Clifford King makes an incision that varies in length depending on the amount of excess skin that needs to be removed. Dr. King tightens the abdominal muscles through the incision and secures them with sutures. The excess skin is then removed and remaining tissue is stretched downward to create a tighter, more defined stomach. Additionally, tummy tuck patients at our practice may find that combining abdominoplasty with other cosmetic surgery options such as breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift, can create a more comprehensive transformation.
If you would like to find out more about abdominoplasty, schedule a tummy tuck consultation at our Madison, Wisconsin, cosmetic surgery practice. Dr. King would be pleased to meet with you and discuss your personal goals and treatment options.
Once healing is complete, the abdominoplasty patient can expect to enjoy a flatter, firmer, sleeker abdomen. A panniculectomy refers to the removal of the pannus, an extremely large bulge of stretched skin and fat on the middle and lower abdomen. This operation differs from an abdominoplasty in that it removes large amounts of skin and fat but does not tighten the abdominal muscles.
A typical panniculectomy involves the removal of a massive overhanging apron of skin and, sometimes, fat on the lower belly. This operation can be quite extensive and is performed under general anesthesia. Through an incision, located in the pubic area, Dr. King removes excess fatty tissue. Excess skin is also removed and remaining skin is pulled together to create a more taut and sleek stomach contour. Because a panniculectomy entails the removal of large amounts of tissue, it often involves a long healing and recovery time.
